Comparison

Wall Washer vs Flood Light

A wall washer paints a surface evenly from close range; a flood light throws light across an area or at a target from a distance. The Lesan families show the split clearly.

Beam and position

A washer sits close to the surface it lights — at the foot of a facade, along a wall base — and uses a wide, shaped beam (the LX-XT-001 offers angles up to 120°) to graze or wash the surface uniformly, with its reach expressed as a projection distance up the wall, from 3M to 20M by variant. A flood light stands back and projects: the bar flood light family offers projection distances from 10M to 40M and lens angles of 15° to 60°, and the LX-TG-010 lists the same lens set at a fraction of the size. Washer results fail by striping and hot spots at the base; flood results fail by spill and glare beyond the target.

Choosing between them

If the brief is a facade that must read as one even field of light, choose the washer and plan its setback from the projection table on the LX-XT-001 page. If the brief is a court, a sign, a tree or a wide architectural field lit from a pole or a setback position, choose the flood and work from the lens angles — the lens angle guide covers the LX-TG-010 and the bar family together. Mixed schemes are common: washers for the wall plane, floods for the features in front of it. The parent categories are LED wall washers and LED flood lights.

Confirm before ordering

State the surface or area dimensions and the mounting position in your inquiry, and confirm the model, beam or lens angle and projection fit for your configuration before ordering.

A worked example: one facade, both instruments

A theatre frontage makes the division of labour visible. The stone wall plane wants to glow as one surface: washers at its base, variant chosen from the projection ladder, run in butted sections. The portico columns want modelling — light and shade that shows their roundness — and that is a flood's narrow lens from a setback position. The sign letters want a tight field with hard edges: the compact flood at its narrowest lens. Specifying any one of the three instruments for all three jobs produces the familiar municipal result: a striped wall, flat columns and a sign that blinds the pavement. The comparison is not a contest; it is a casting decision, made per surface.
